Spotify is cashing in on the nostalgia trend which is at the moment ripping by way of the web. Their new Time Capsule playlist gathers with each other a assortment of songs from your teenagers and early 20s that you can toss on to vibe with, losing you in an earlier, less difficult time.
As Spotify describes it, “Your Time Capsule gathers the thirty most nostalgic tracks from your teenagers and early twenties, developing the soundtrack for a vacation down memory lane.”
This is a fantastic way to maintain subscribers coming back to your app, by developing heat memories that they can then affiliate with your system. Genius.
Now my playlist does not seem to follow that description of the Time Capsule. Not that I’m complaining. To begin, my playlist is composed of fifty three songs, not thirty. And the songs seem to be compiled from my listening patterns far more than anything. I was born in ’85 and most of the songs are from a time in advance of I was a teenager. There is even a tune from ’61 thrown in the blend.
I mostly listen to 80s and 90s Rap and R&B so my playlist is composed of songs from individuals eras from artists like Slick Rick, DMX, Wu-Tang, Infamous B.I.G, Geto Boys, Blackstreet, and many others. Again, not that I’m complaining. I’m not hating on some “Return of the Mack” and “Regulate.” Hell, I’m nodding my head to Brandy “Sittin’ Up in My Room” ideal now.
There are a few tracks on there from my teenage yrs but it is definitely not the the greater part. My guess is they use your age that you deliver at sign-up blended with the genuine new music you listen to. If you have given no authentic indication in all your hours of listening to Spotify that you listen to the period of new music affiliated with your teenagers then it will make sense they would get that into account.
Both that or I lied about my age when I signed up. I’m not placing it earlier myself.
