Hyundai has just revealed a prototype of a new robotic exoskeleton suit they’re working on, the H-LEX. Some are calling it an Iron Man suit though it really isn’t that.

The suit more closely resembles the suits the humans were using in Avatar or the soldiers were wearing to battle in Edge of Tomorrow. Now, when I think of Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit I think rocket boots that allow you to fly, blast canons that shoot from your hands and a slick British computer/butler that calms you down with his rational tone.

This suit has none of those things. Not even endless tiny missiles that fly out of various points in the suit. They couldn’t even give me that one thing. Thanks a lot Obama.

The exoskeleton Hyundai is developing is a newer version of the previously unveiled Hyundai Lifecaring ExoSkeleton or H-LEX. The purpose of both of these models is to help the disabled walk and engage in physical activities like lifting and moving things.

But it doesn’t just stop with the disabled. The James Cameron suit (that’s what I’m calling it) would allow anyone to pick up hundreds of pounds more than they usually would be able to. We’re talking superhuman strength here. This would make it very useful in factories or heavy manual labor jobs.

The earlier model was large and clunky and required some refinement. This newer one is more lightweight and allows for more mobility but still isn’t ready to go to market.

It’s still too clunky and unwieldy. It has a large back piece where the motor, computer and robotics sit and the hands are…claws. Hmmm the claws are more reminiscent of the suit Ripley wore in Aliens, another James Cameron flick. Alright, Hyundai, seriously let’s just call this a James Cameron suit.

Well who knows where this suit is going. If it ever does go to market the hands might actually be hands and the thing could more resemble an actual Iron Man suit. For now Hyundai is content with just keeping us excited at the idea that someone is developing robotic exoskeletons.
